Devon Lions hosted Shaldon Villa in their first home match of the season at the new home ground at Starcross. After last week’s match, the Lions needed a good result to put the previous match in the back of their minds. Unfortunately not to be.

With numbers short again we invited a local lad Kacey to fill in at defense to play the match, so first off we would like to thank you and hope to see you again. So with Lions having the bare 11 and Villa having one worse and starting with 10 the match got underway.  Not a good start for the Lions as the first half was one to forget, Chris was able to have some good moments and make some good save but ultimately 5 ended up in the back of the Lions net.  With a few heads dropping the half ended a much-needed break was given.

With the first half not exactly going the Lions way, the second half gave the team a nice surprise. Within no time at all the Lions struck first at the restart and Jon got the Lions 1 up early, as the Lions looked to make the second half more of a competition. With no subs the Lions kept plugging away which did see more of an even contest, it ended with both teams grabbing another goal. The Lions goal came from only 2 players getting involved, Gordon supplied a well-taken goal kick for Chris in goal to which Simon got on the end of. With a run that only seems to come from Simon, he slotted away the Lions second goal and made the day a little bit brighter.

The season still not really going the Lions way we look forward to next week with a new match to look for the first season win.  We host Plymouth United for our second encounter of our 16/17 campaign. Final score on the day was Lions 2-6 Villa.

We would also like to thank Kacey Miles for making up the numbers to play with a full team
